For the New Year, please take note of moving from poverty conscious to prosperity conscious by avoiding emotional spending to please yourself or your family members with their "wants." These are discretionary items that you just want to have, and are not needed. Instead, focus on protecting your financial future. Pay off credit card debt, and build an emergency fund (savings) that you can rely on in case of emergencies. Do not use your credit card for emergencies.
Nine out of ten people are not at risk for foreclosure of your home, but that doesn't mean you can't work on lowering your mortgage debt. Pay one extra mortgage payment a year by taking the monthly amount of your mortgage payment, dividing by twelve, and paying the extra amount along with your monthly payment towards your principle.
